TROUBLES AND TREATS (Chocolate Lovers, #3) by Tara Sivec

Troubles and Treats (Chocolate Lovers, #3)Troubles and Treats by Tara Sivec
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 FUNNY STARS

Drew and Jenny have been married for several years, now have two small children, and have settled into domesticity. The problem is that ever since Jenny got pregnant with their four month old, Billy, their sex live has been nonexistent. With the advice for their friends, hilarity, miscommunication and missed opportunities abound. That is until Drew realizes that Jenny just needs some help and Jenny realizes she needs to learn to communicate with her husband.

I love this series. I can honestly say I haven't read anything as funny in a while. I don't know if it was because Gavin wasn't in it as much or the main couple means so much to me, but this one lost just a tiny bit of its spark. Wasn't as funny as the other two, which had me in stitches at least every two pages. This one, I just wanted to shake Jenny and Drew and tell them to talk to each other. I don't know why any of the other couples didn't realized that Jenny just needed some much needed rest/sleep and take the kids for a weekend or something. I just felt the problem lasted too long.

But, saying all that, there were hilarious moments. I loved the new friend, Jackson, and the fact that Jenny still doesn't know what so many words mean.

I will still read anything Tara Sivec writs. She's a funny lady.

FUTURES AND FROSTINGS (Chocolate Lovers, #2) by Tara Sivec

Futures and Frosting (Chocolate Lovers, #2)Futures and Frosting by Tara Sivec
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5++++ STARS

A continuation of Seduction and Snacks , after Gavin and Claire have moved in with Carter. Gavin has a daddy noq and loves living with both of his parents. It's now time for Claire to meet Carter's parents, but every opportunity leads to an unfortunate event when Claire is either drunk social posting or playing the equivalent of food softball in the house.

Lots of misunderstandings, miscommunications and pot cookies, cause a bit of strain in the relationship. And of course Gavin and his precocious mouth. Drew and Gavin fight light little kids, which is funny since Gavin is and Drew isn't... a little kid that is.

"I'm going to put corn and hot sauce on your wiener, and then I'll hit you in the face with it. Hit you in the face with your corny wiener." "You're a juice bag."~ Gavin

What? He threatened my wiener. He's lucky I didn't throw down fisticuffs with him. And just because he said 'juice bag' doesn't mean we don't both know what he was really thinking. That kid is an evil, evil genius, and I never want to be left alone with him." ~ Drew

And some of the saying that Rachel, Claire's mother, comes up with are just priceless. "If you love something you should set it free or you'll get down to brass tacks in your tires."

Carter loves Claire and keeps trying to let her know exactly like he feels, but things keep getting in the way. He's so nervous about it that Claire suspects that he may never want to marry her, which she never really considered until after Liz and Jim's wedding. With them both jumping to conclusions and not communicating, hilarity ensues.

It's rare to get through more than two pages without breaking out in full on belly laughter. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Seduction and Snacks (Chocolate Lovers, #1)Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5++++ STARS

I don't know why no one told me about or encouraged me to read a Tara Sivec book before now. But now that I have, I'm going to read everything she writes.

Claire and Carter meet at a frat party and a one-night-stand turns into a pregnancy. The problem is they didn't exchange names so Claire doesn't know how to find him. Five years later, Carter has moved to her small town for work and is drowning his sorrows over a failed relationship in the bar where Claire works... and he doesn't remember her. But there's something familiar about her smell. It seems Carter has been looking for her her as well even though he can't remember her face.

Claire doesn't know how to tell him she's the girl his friend Drew has been ragging him about for years and Carter can't understand why he's so drawn to her, like no other since the girl in college. That is until he's about to kiss her and her toddler Gavin comes running in. Carter realizes he has a child... a child that just punch him in the nuts.

All the characters were so funny. Gavin being the funniest of them all. Drew's perpetual child like behavior and the T-shirts with inappropriate sayings. Jenny who never used the proper wording. Liz and Jim who were Claire's oldest friends and always had her back. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to burst something.

4 INTENSE ROCKING STARS

All I can say is DANG! It starts out so intense. I felt Emily's confusion and anxiety when she first hears and sees Sculpt aka Logan. She's thrown into this situation where she just doesn't know how to react. She can't comprehend her circumstances. She wants to fight at every turn, yet she knows it will cause her more pain. the fight or flight instinct is so strong in her.

description

The things she has to do to stay alive, the things she has to believe in order to not get her hopes up too much, yet not be broken. Then to know that the person she loved was part of it, yet not understanding when Sculpt is nice to her. She's built up ever so slightly, only to be torn down again. She fights from within not to be broken.

Once she back home with her friends, its her work with abused horses on the farm where she works and lives that bring her back to the living.

description

Only to find out that Sculpt owns the farm, when he shows up years later. He's determined to win her back at all costs and to continue to keep her safe even is Emily wants to fight her feelings for him.

"You don't get to do that. You let me go, remember. I'm free now and I don't need anything from you. I'm not your fucking sex slave to cram your cock into every night." ~ Emily

"Trust is built. Ours just needs to be rebuilt and it takes time. But baby, we'll do it together." ~ Logan aka Sculpt

I really liked this book. Like I said, the beginning was so intense. I wanted to like Logan, but couldn't reconcile the things he was doing to Emily with who I or Emily wanted him to be. It's not until years later, when he tries to explain, that you understand the position he was in. The position he put himself in to in order to protect her in his way. Where there different things he could have done? Not without getting both of them killed or stalked and killed later. It was an unwinable situation.

Then the story gets a little soft. I liked what I read, but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. I think I knew where it was headed and would have liked it if it was more of a surprise to have snuck up on me. There was one shocker that came in I didn't see coming until I was reading the situation (view spoiler).

I want the author to get an editor or beta readers, because my problem with With You is my same issue here, with the spelling and grammatical errors. Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect, but I just think a little more care could have been taken. Example were she writes 'vanilla envelope' instead of 'manilla envelope.'

I loved the H/h and the peripheral characters. I can't wait to learn more about Ream and Kat, Deck and Georgie, and Kai and Raven. Even Kite and Crisis. I mean, where did she come up with these names? I want to read about all of them.

4 - 4.5 KNOCK OUT STARS

Sculpt aka Logan, is the lead of the rock band Torn, looking to go on tour. He's also an underground fighter.

description

Emily aka Eme, is a young insecure college student with some familial issues, looking to learn to fight after a recent attack.

Sculpt won't tell Emily much about himself, not even his real name, and her self-appointed guardian, Matt, doesn't like it very much. He believes there's something dangerous bout Sculpt and the fact that no one, not even his bandmates know much about him or even his real name, is a big red flag. But Sculpt does everything in his power to convince Emily he's in love with her and that they will always be together.

description

When Emily finally decides she can trust Sculpt and that she's in love, her life changes instantly. Which leads us to book one in the series.

I liked this prequel a lot. It's like an extra long prologue, giving you a quick lay of the land before you delve into the full novel. Now I have to say that because I liked it, I will be supper pissed off if I love the first book in the series and its a major cliffhanger like this one was. I have no idea when book two will be available.

The reasons I'm not giving it full five stars is because of several spelling and grammatical errors. I would be so involved in what was going on that I would get completely thrown when I came across them. Maybe because I was tired, because other authors have he same issues. But I noticed it more acutely in this.

I also felt that Emily was a little too naive for someone who'd had such a rough upbringing, but because she was so beaten down by others in her life, I was able to forgive it a bit.

Torn From You will be started tomorrow. Yay!

TAKE ME DEEP (Take #2) by Jaimie Roberts

Take it Deep (Take, #2)Take it Deep by Jaimie Roberts
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Needed lots of editing. Felt like two different story in one book. No real reasons for the riff in the relationship. I think I would have liked the story more if it was about Matthew and Cindy, or Jessie and her boyfriend.

I didn't love the first book, but at least it was better than this one. Bummer.

UNTEACHABLE by Leah Raeder

2.5 STARS

Maise meets Evan at a carnival. The have an instant attraction and consummate that night together, and she runs off. Once the school year starts, they realized they are student and teacher, and they can't stay away from each other. Soon their lives consist of clandestine meetings and weekend trips to another city so they can be together.

description

But there are other forces at work. Maise's best friend Wesley thinks he's saving her, a mean-girl, Hyiam, blackmails her, and her own mother puts her in danger with a druglord. But Maise's smarter and more determined than any of them know.

It was just a bit better than okay. There was so much internal dialogue, I wanted it to stop. Although Maise had to basically raise herself, there were some things she said or thought that were just way too adult for her age or circumstance. I also didn't understand how one class could determine whether she got into the curriculum she wanted in college that you wanted. It's not like having to take math, not taking the film studies class shouldn't keep her from getting into that in college. I could be wrong, but it didn't make sense to me.

Either way, I just didn't love this as much as everyone else. It was fine though and I read through it quickly.

Sorry! Not really my cup of tea. Slow to get started. Nothing to explain what/or who these people are and how they get away with what they do for so long. Especially since it was eluded to, that their powers only effect men.

Nothing to learn in this novella/short. Sometimes it just don't work and in the case it didn't.

4 SEXY CRAZY STARS

Madison Decater loves sex. Not for emotional reasons, not to get a guy to like her. She loves sex because she likes it and how it makes her feel. Let's just say she has a big appetite. When she meets Stewart, a workaholic with little time for anything but his job. She's not sure if she wants that in her life, but she's drawn to him, soon falling in love. But she won't be exclusive to someone who is more committed to their work than her. Soon Stewart makes a suggestion to keep her occupied and safe. Enter Paul. Paul is everything Stewart isn't. He's attentive and laid back and willing to do anything to be with Maddison, even share her.

Then there's Dana. She watches everything from afar. She also loves the two men in Madison's life. She's not sure of what's going on, but she will soon find out.

I really loved this book. Although the HEA wasn't what I wanted (which is the only reason I didn't give the book five stars), I respect the author for the choice that was made. The first 75% was filled with twists and turns I didn't even see what was coming next. It was great. The sex was hot. (view spoiler)

Wow is all I can say!

3.5 - 4 OBSESSIVE STARS

Filled with angst, disappointment, and passion. This finale to the series really worked. This is what I wanted in book three.

Sophie new she loved David from the moment she met him. Not having love growing up and being kept from experience the world by a her aunt, it's a wonder she knew what love was. But David being distrustful of anyone, couldn't see or understand Sophie's love for him. So he pushed her away. This is him trying to get her back and boy was it good.

Thank you Serena, for letting me be a part of your journey and reviewing the series.

This just wasn't for me. It took me forever to get through it. I liked the idea of it, but there were too many stories going on for it to be a short story and the fact that I hadn't read the earlier books in the series kept me from being connected to anyone in particular, other than Max.

Max's story was heartbreaking and sweet at the same time. There just wasn't enough for me to give it a better rating.
