I didn't really get this story. Other that the intimate moments, there wasn't much of a story to me. Lizzie is at a hotel for a party and takes a moment to herself at the bar when she meets a enigmatic and beautiful older man, John Smith, who immediately propositions her. She realizes he thinks she's a callgirl. One of her roommates, Brent, has been spent some time as an escort, therefore, she knows some of the intricacies and goes along with it. She likes John immediately and likes the games he plays.

She allows him to contact her while he's in town conducting business over the next several days where they engage in increasingly more sexually adventurous behavior. From bondage to having sex in a deserted, yet public wooded area. John becomes a attached to Lizzie, who he knows as Bettie, a play on her name (Elizabeth) and her resemblance in look and style to Bettie Page. He likes her willingness to try everything, but becomes suspicious of her realistic yet slightly nieve reactions to his ministrations and has her investigated, where he realizes she's not a call girl at all.

Lizzie really wants to tell John that she's not a call girl and as she gets to know him she becomes more enamored by him. But she discusses her roommates, Brent and Shelley, a lot and John suspects that she is really in love with Brent. Though he tries to keep his distance, he really can't stop thinking about her and becoming enchanted by her.

Lizzie finally tells John she's not a call girl and that she will give him his money back. John tells her about his life and his family and the expectations of them and why he's estranged. She tries to encourage him to connect with them again. While at a BDSM club during a weekend trip with John, Lizzie gets a call of Brent's attempted suicide.

While Brent tries to get himself together, he gets John to come back where he and Lizzie tell each other their true feelings.

Again, it was kind of a slow read. And only the intimate stuff was interesting to read.
