I should have known, but I was hoping it would possibly get better, but it didn't. I'd read the first two section, of what is really a full book broken up in three parts, a few months ago when they became available on NetGalley and didn't really like them. But this, and being the end of the book, was the worst.
Part 2 is the start of a mystery where someone is after Mary and/or the Fetish Box and they don't know why. Although, Max and John seem to think and know its probably Mrs. Bond's husband, a police detective, whom Mrs. Bond left due to her increasing interest in the BDSM life. Part 3 starts with Mary escaping someone who has broken in and is tearing her house up. She's angry with Max for not being there when she woke, because he was off having sex with some randome woman. But she gets over that quite quickly. Enough to have sex with him the next morning, I guess... since time tends to mean nothing in this book. And the sex with Max only warrants a line mention. John seems to know she's had sex with Max, but never says anything to either of them. I understand that John is supposed to be holding himself back from really feeling anything for Mary, but he had previously told Max to back off, so you would think he would say something... But... Nothing.
Then John and Mary proceed to have non-stop sex from the kitchen, to the bedroom, to the shower, to the office, to the bedroom. Mary mentions once that she's sore, but that doesn't stop anyone. Even half asleep they continue to have sex.
Finally at the Party for Mrs. Bond, the reveal is that her husband is the person who's after Mary because her mother turned Mrs. Bond onto the life. But, again this is dumb. We knew it was this guy. And with Mary being caught off guard without anyone at her back because she was alone before, why would she be alone again? It boggles my mind.
Of course, Mr. Bond is quickly apprehended. I think the whole debacle lasted about three pages, if that. Then everything is fine. Lillehammer, Mary's friend and who was in Part 1 reemerges for the last two pages of the book. Characters who work in Mary's shop, disappeared and had nothing to say from Part 2 to Part 3.
It just needs a lot of work and shouldn't have been released likes this. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because I don't like saying I hate a book, it was short and the sex between Mary and John, when it was described, was kina hot. Otherwise, it was just awful. more like 1.5 stars.
