My rating: 4 of 5 stars

ARC provided by publisher through NetGalley for an honest review.

4 Funny, Hilarious, Laugh-Out-Loud Stars

This book was so funny at times, I was holding my stomach and crying. It wasn't my typical book that I would normally buy, but I'm glad I requested it from NetGalley, cause it was really funny.

It kinda reminded me of something like the film How To Loose A Guy in 10 Days in situational humor.

Christy is a twenty-four year old Type A personality who uses her iPhone as her second brain and extra appendage. It's always stuck in her had. It holds her schedule and every app that she could possibly use to clients and herself organized as a personal assistant to everyone from extremely busy executives to young paparazzi followed heiress'.

The day she's to pick up her future brother-in-law from the airport, all hell breaks loose when Christy loses said iPhone on the train. The phone is picked up by Will, who is on his way to his family home to deal with the business of a deceased relative and his poet father, with whom he has a strained relationship.

First Christy picks up the wrong Antonio and everything goes downhill from there. But the calming voice of Will on the other line, helping her with her schedule makes her realize she's been missing something in her life. A companion, someone who's there when things go wrong and someone to celebrate with when things go well. She also comes to learn that she's a little pushy with her own family and has to let up a bit even when she thinks shes helping.

Will realizes, with Christy's help, that although he's experienced a childhood that wasn't ideal, he has a father that loves him in his own way and didn't completely drop out after his mother passe. He learns that it's never too late to establish the relationship he wants with his father.

Christy spends her day running around Manhattan, The Bronx, Newark and New Brunswick, with Italian supermodel Toni, who speaks broken English in commercial slogans and song lyrics trying to get her complete her tasks for her clients. Some of her judgement and preconceived notions of people are put to the test as well as the good will of others. Christy is always ready to help when someone is in need and this brings good things to her later in the story.

It's so funny at times, you can't help buy laugh so hard you cry. I would have liked a little better communication with Will at times, but I get where the author was coming from.

The idea that we are all way too connected to technology to even remember someone's phone number really resonated with me. I'm of an age that I remember when we had to remember everyone's numbers to call them or at least have it written down in a phone book next to the phone. I'm always complaining that I feel I don't use my actual brain enough, which is why I read. So I loved the idea of what happens when someone loses something that they use instead of their own brain or writing down.

Just too funny.

FALLING INTO YOU (Falling, #1) by Jasinda Wilder

Falling Into You (Falling, #1)Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars

I liked it. From the beginning, when the story is told from the past about Kyle and Nell, I found myself a little bored. I think I may be too old to care about two sixteen year olds and their sex life. Then their story takes a turn that wrenches your heart out and I truly cried for them.

description

description

I was confused about Nell and Colton. She says to her mother that she's only met him twice. But she grew up with Kyle as they were only three days apart, their families were friends, they basically lived next door to each other and Colton is only five years older than the two of them. So how is it possible that she have only met him twice?

I wondered if Nell would have felt the same way about Colton if she's been around him before things took a turn for the worse or after her hormones kicked in.

Two years later when Nell and Colton run into each other, their connection is interesting. I'm not sure I understand their communication through song, but I like the idea of it. I don't think Nell is saying what he's saying and it's not until his song about the kiss in the sand that she fully understands and runs away.

I really don't understand why Colton thinks Nell is going to be the one to leave him in a heap of despair when all is said and done. I get that she's damaged and that he sees that, but I don't understand his immediate thought that she will hurt him.

I also don't understand how Colton, a white privileged boy from the suburbs of Detroit now sounds like like a hood from the ghetto. I get that it where he's been but I just don't get the devolving into that speak when he's with Nell.

Okay, now that I've said everything that I don't get and you can kind of understand why I didn't love this book. I will talk about what I did like.

I love how Colton's immediate reaction to Nell is protective. He senses the same pain in her that's in him. His instinct is to take care of her, not just for Kyle but for himself. I love how he's pulled himself out of the nothing he was left in and made something of himself. I love that he has an artistic outlet that brings him such peacefulness and joy. I love how this has brought Nell to her release, though she doesn't realize it at first.

I love how Nell didn't let her feelings for her first love go even though it was time to move on. There would always be a connection to him. I love how she was with Colton. She let herself go, she opened up and grew up.

This was a very sweet story.

I didn't actually hate it, but I didn't like it. I don't like novellas like this. It said a whole lot of nothing. I didn't move deep enough into the story for me to want any more. I don't like doing this because I respect writers for what they do and putting themselves out there. But I don't like this and I don't care to read the rest of the series.

I liked it. I was pretty consistent with the television show with a few deviations. Those deviations are what made it interesting and not redundant.

Penciling was great as with the color pallet of the comic. I would definitely recommend that anyone who likes comics take a read.

Fun!

THE MARRIAGE MERGER (Married to a Billionaire, #4) by Jennifer Probst

The Marriage Merger (Marriage to a Billionaire, #4)The Marriage Merger by Jennifer Probst
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

ARC provided through NetGalley by publisher for an honest review.

I liked this one much more than the other three in the series. I'm still not sure why the series is called Marriage to a Billionaire when one of the sisters even stated in this book that the men are millionaires.

Anyway, I really understood Julietta's plight of being so single minded at work that he found it hard to find a man who engaged her or that she felt comfortable with. As driven as I am, I have the same problem, just not for the same reasons :-).

I loved how Sawyer immediately understood what Julietta needed in a sexual relationship and was driven to give it to her. He also didn't like when she put herself down and told her right away that it wasn't her. But, I also found it strange that once things moved more into a relationship, Sawyer only seemed to understand what he was doing to her or only stayed with her because of other people. Be it realizing he was causing Wolfe to regress or because he owed something to Mama Conte.

I liked Sawyer's relationship with Wolfe. I love how he identified with him right away and took him under his wing. But didn't make Wolfe conform to what he wanted him to be. Letting Wolfe come to things on his own time schedule.

Again, I liked this book much more than the other three and considering it's the last in the series, I guess it's appropriate that it ends on a better note.

THE MARRIAGE TRAP (Marriage to a Billionaire, #2) by Jennifer Probst

The Marriage Trap (Marriage to a Billionaire, #2)The Marriage Trap by Jennifer Probst
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I keep finding myself skimming the story. Not really my cup of tea. Maybe because I've read some amazing books in the recent past, that my patience for something that's too much fluff is on the lower end. Maybe its because I don't have much time. I don't know.

Maggie thinks that the only reason Michael turned her down for another date is because he's in love with her best friend, Alexa who married her brother. Although he tells her that's not the case, she doesn't believe him. How narcissistic can you be to believe the only reason someone doesn't want to be with you is because he loves someone else? What if he just doesn't feel it with you?

Anyway, this leads to lots of miscommunication and hurt feelings that aren't explained on both of their parts, but mostly by Maggie. Until all of a sudden she tells him all of her secrets. Even those she's never told her brother or Alexa. I found that strange as well. I get that she was starting to fall for Michael. But, she didn't think she was worthy of being loved, why would she tell such a big secret?

The books in the Marriage to a Billionaire series seem to follow the same script a little to closely for me. Also, are these guys billionaires? There's no reason to believe so other than the name of the series. Multimillionaire's yes. But billionaires? Because they own their own businesses?

Anyway, I think you get my issues. I don't need to go on. One more to read and them I'm done. No more of this series.

THE MARRIAGE BARGAIN (Marriage to a Billionaire, #1) by Jennifer Probst

The Marriage Bargain (Marriage to a Billionaire, #1)The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I liked it okay. I liked The Marriage Mistake much better. I don't know if I would have continued reading the series if I started with the first book. After all the hoopla over it, I thought it would be much better than it turned out to be.

We never got to see or meet Nick's parents, so I really don't understand his drama. I get that they weren't ideal, but he was a little over the top about relationships to me. Alexa was a bit to prideful. I get not broadcasting your business to everyone. But if it's someone you've grown up with and have feelings for, then get over yourself, I say.

I liked the connection and fun Alexa had with Conte more than Nick. Not enough of her friend Maggie, who was a hoot.

I will read the next in the series, because I have it. But, not really holding out hope that it will be much better.

REBELLION (A Dangerous Man #2), A Novella by Serena Grey

Rebellion (A Dangerous Man #2)Rebellion by Serena Grey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Arc provided by the author for an honest review.

Maybe it was because Awakening was so short, but this one was much better. I'm anxious to see where it goes from here. We now have a little more insight into why David married Sophie, but I get the impression there's much more to the story than David is letting out. He's scared of not being loved and being left, therefore he does the not loving and leaving first. It's a defense mechanism.

And Sophie is so young. She's lived a life without love but is craving it unlike David doing everything to not feel it. She just wants him to talk to her, but feels used at every turn. It seems that everything he does is calculated. What else can she do to protect herself?

Oh... and Carole is a B**ch!

I'm really looking forward to seeing where this story goes in the next installment in Claim .

The Reluctant Dom (The Suncoast Society)The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5+++++ HEART MELTING, GUT WRENCHINGLY, EMOTIONALLY DRAINING stars

I have to say that this was one of the most difficult books I've ever read. I thought I was emotional reading Losing Hope. I teared up a little while reading that book. This book, had me doing the ugly cry with sound effects. All I can say is... WOW!

description

I had wanted to read this book for some time. But just never got around to it. All I can say is that I didn't know Ménage could be so deep, as one of my goodreads buddy pointed out to me. And of course that's not really the focus of the story. It's about love and the many different forms it can take. Its about being there for those you love even when you are uncomfortable, about telling and living in your truth, taking the time to really know yourself and what you are cable of.

I'm not giving anything away because it's in the the description of the book, but Kaden, after three independent doctor visits, has to inform his best friend and his wife that he's dying. And due to his wife, Leah's, tragic past, he needs to make sure she's taken care of after he's gone. Enter his best friend and self proclaimed "screw-up," Seth. They've been as close as brothers, their entire lives, but nothing could have prepared Seth for what Kaden would ask him to do, let alone the many emotions he would go through during this journey. They were all flawed characters in their way, but when they came together, they were a happy and loving unit. It was beautiful to read how much love these two men had for each other and how Seth was willing to step up and go out of his comfort zone to do whatever Kaden needed. It wasn't a hardship to love Leah, but he had a lot to learn. The journey was funny at times, even sweet. But, it was definitely tragic and emotional.

Throughout the book the author has Seth chanting kaden'sdyingkaden'sdying over and over again at different times to show how this keeps intruding on the joy of their lives and how they all are together. And each time it happened, I crumbled and teared up. It was this constant drumming in the background of the story, which would ultimately remind Seth and me, as the reader, that things were not going to work out.

When it got to the very crucial part of the story, I cried like I haven't cried in years and with any other book...and I read a lot. I could barely read at times. I would have to take breaks. Now I have a headache and just want to sleep.

I tell you my next book will have to be lighter, because I feel beat up.

As I said, I didn't expect this emotional journey, but I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to read good writing and read an emotional journey.

STEAM MY HEART by Lisa Eugene

Steal My HeartSteal My Heart by Lisa Eugene
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It took me a bit to get my thoughts together to review this book. I had read so many great reviews about it and I had been going through a pretty good reading jag, so I guess my expectations were high. I was a little put out that this book wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

Unfortunately, I felt there were just too many long drawn out descriptions of locations. I know every book has it and needs it so you can get a full picture in your head of what you are reading. But it just felt like there was all description and no actual action happening.

I didn't really feel any real chemistry between Gabe and Maggie, either. For someone as bright as she was, she did a lot of dumb things. Maggie's friend David was the best thing about the book. He was hilarious, but not in the story much.

I can't say I would recommend this book. I would think that if you want a quick mindless read, then maybe this book. It was just okay to me.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Interestingly enough, I didn't want to read this one. I just wanted to jump right into Resist and I considered just skipping it.

Boy am I glad I did read it. So many questions answered, yet I also have more.

Poor Jonathan, hasn't had it easy with anyone. It seems Monica is the only one who's taken him just as he is and accepted him and treated him with any normalcy.

I have to say, that even thought that each book in this series so far has technically been a novella, each book has moved quickly, but never missing out on a moment to tell the reader something and also cause you to ask more questions.

Looking forward to the next installment.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Okay, now I'm curious. I'm not normally one to delve into someone's past and the fact that Gabby had done a little research on him tickled my curiosity a bit, but this I'm very curious about.

Also, I'm a little disappointed in Jonathan. He told Monica, he'd only kissed Jessica. He didn't have sex with her, but he did much much more than just kiss her.

The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it was just sort of a clearing up of a few questions, if that. Not much more. But, insightful enough for me to get more curious about Jonathan's past.

I was really hoping things would turn out this way for Monica and Jonathan, and no its not surprising because the story (therefore the relationship) has to continue, but things could have gone in so many different directions or just continued on with him being keeping himself distant. At first, I though Monica was going to give him hell and walk away, but she gave him the opportunity to explain with a little or a lot of prompting. Keeping him distracted in that way so he couldn't over think it was fun to read.

But, the thing that really killed me was Gabby. Reading how Monica and Darren were ripped apart, was very difficult I loved how Jonathan was there for her. He's really stepping up and I am happy he's being patient with her, in his way.

Debbie is someone, I would like to know a little more about. Monica had her revelation about her and I wonder more about her.

Tease (Songs of Submission, #2)Tease by C.D. Reiss
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have no complaints. I think C.D. does better in her novellas than many authors do in a full book. I just can't stop reading, because I want to know the emotional journey of these two people. Monica held her own with Jessica and I think Kevin is an emotional drain. Everything is about him and how he feels. Yes, i agree that Monica could have had a conversation with him. But, really... would he have even understood what she was saying?

When I'm caught up with the series. I'm sure I will have withdrawals until the next book is available. Although there are many other books of this type on the market, the other characters in these books are structured well and keep the story flowing. Good job Ms. Reiss. Keep them coming.

5 + Stomach Aching Hilarious Stars.

This book was hilarious. I laughed so hard in places that my stomach would hurt. The idea that this is from a man's point of view was a really smart move from the author. My only critique is that I don't believe a self appointed ladies man could fall so hard and do so many very feminine type things. But maybe that's just because I haven't met him yet :-).

I idea that Drew thought he had the flu when he was feeling emotional pain was so funny to me. Anything other than to realize that he had made a mistake and needed Kate. You could feel how he softened when he was in the presence of his niece and how kids pick up on everything you say, when she repeated the things he said. The swear jar doubled me over.

I read this book right after a very emotional series and it was the perfect thing for me. Emma Chase...write more.
