I was really hoping things would turn out this way for Monica and Jonathan, and no its not surprising because the story (therefore the relationship) has to continue, but things could have gone in so many different directions or just continued on with him being keeping himself distant. At first, I though Monica was going to give him hell and walk away, but she gave him the opportunity to explain with a little or a lot of prompting. Keeping him distracted in that way so he couldn't over think it was fun to read.
But, the thing that really killed me was Gabby. Reading how Monica and Darren were ripped apart, was very difficult I loved how Jonathan was there for her. He's really stepping up and I am happy he's being patient with her, in his way.
Debbie is someone, I would like to know a little more about. Monica had her revelation about her and I wonder more about her.
