Book provided by NetGalley for an honest review
Grayson Cooper is a dragon mage and a year ago, he turned and couldn't control his abilities. His wife, Cate, who had abilities of her own used them to lock him away. She gave him a year to battle his dragon and learn to control it. But before she was able to do that, Grayson, tried to kill them both... or did he? And why does his best friend and law partner, Michael, keep trying to get Cate to sleep with him.
But once Grayson has control, though Cate has left him, he will do anything in his power to protect his family and bring Michael to the justice he deserves.
This is the basic premis behind this short novella. It's quick and glosses over some things pretty quickly to try to move the story along. Sometimes it works, yet there are times it doesn't, yet the writer will take a moment to describe the view from the balcony in the bedroom. I like the idea, I liked the characters. The story just felt a little clunky to me. It didn't move smoothly. I just wanted them to talk to each other. I think a lot of the confusion, hurt feeling and idea that one or the other didn't care by actual communication, instead of trying to save the other from harm or judging the other for their way of handling things.
I would read another one if it was available on NetGalley. I really would like to now who is amassing power by pillaging other hoards and why. How does Michael fit into all of it? Why is it that Grayson doen't have the urge to hurt his family unlike other Dragon Mages?
