My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I don't know what to say. I have so many issues with this book. Firstly it wasn't until about the 20% mark in the book, when the author went from constant sex (which I'm not opposed to if it works) to something actually happening in the story. That means almost the first quarter was about the different ways Damien wanted Nikki, or Nikki was willing to have sex with him. Like I said, that was all fine and good, but it got to a place where I was thinking, all I want is for this to move forward so I can know what the heck is happening in the actual story.
Secondly, there is the issue with someone finding out and telling the press that Nikki posed for the portrait and for how much. If the terms of the deal were only supposed to be between Nikki, Damien and Blaine, how the heck did it get out? I was more interested in that then the possible indictment. Also, seeing Blaine's type of art, I don't understand why her doing it for a million dollars is an issue when others have come before her. Not for the same price, but they've still been in the portraits. Yes, I get that it's about Damien being infamous and rich, but it still just seems excessive to me.
Thirdly, for me there wasn't enough suspense in the indictment part of the storyline. There were little hints here and there, but not enough to end up being about what it ultimately is about. I just felt there could have been more suspense about what he was hiding so that the reveal could have been more interesting. I mean, he will of course be exonerated. But it could have been more enticing to read.
I get that Ollie cares for Nikki, but he's is out of his mind if he thinks that pushing the way he has is going to help his case in any way.
Now once the author got into more of the story, I enjoyed it much more. I did keep expecting Bruce's wife, Giselle, to come out of the woodwork/corner as the culprit in leaking the information about the painting. But, that never happened.
I don't know. I fear I'm giving the book a better rating then I actually feel because I just hate bashing someone else's work, but I would say it's more like 2.5 stars. Not really a full three, but I did enjoy some of the story. There just wasn't enough of it for me.
